British Seniors Open to Visit Royal Porthcawl Golf Club in 2014
March 9th, 2012
Supporters of Welsh golf were overjoyed when the R&A announced recently that the British Seniors Open would be played over the links at Royal Porthcawl in South Wales in 2014, this will be the first time that any major Open has been held in Wales.
David Williams Golf Design had been brought in by the Club approximately 6 years ago to advise on methods to improve the course and assist in the creation of a true championship venue. Various proposals were put forward including lengthening most of the par 5 holes, so that they became genuine three shotters. New tees were built, but the most impressive alteration was the creation of a new 12th green and approach, extending the hole by almost 100 yards, to 560 yards in length.
