THE FIRST CENTURY REACHED ... and on with the next!

Golf Course ArchitectsDavid Williams Golf Design, whose drawing boards (and computer screens!) have produced over 20 new courses during the 1990s, have now completed the construction of over 100 new holes in the first five years of this decade. The eight projects have ranged geographically from Scotland to Spain, and in character from very high quality Championship venues to ‘pay and play’ 9 hole Par 3 courses.

36 of the holes were created on the Archerfield Estate, immediately next to Muirfield on the East Lothian coast of Scotland, where two 18 hole Championship courses were constructed with DWGD assisting European Senior Tour Professional David J. Russell in the design.

Another project where DWGD assisted leading Professional golfers is at PGA Golf de Catalunya, near Gerona in Spain, where David Williams is resuming his co-operation with Neil Coles and Angel Gallardo in the construction of a second 18 hole course on this venue.

Fairway DesignDWGD have also returned to former clients for the 9 hole golf course at Godstone Golf Club in Surrey, just a couple of minutes from the M25. The course constructed in Spring 2004 and opened for play in May 2005.

Three new Par 3 courses were built in North Wales, two of them for Fore Golf in north-east Wales. The two sites, one on the outskirts of Chester and the other on the edge of Wrexham, both had very advantageous sandy subsoils, whilst the third, high in the mountains of the Lleyn Peninsula, offered magnificent views in all directions.

The final holes constructed were on existing South Wales courses. At Palleg Golf Club, nine new holes were constructed to extend their existing 9 hole course to full 18 hole layout and, at neighbouring Glynneath Golf Club, four new holes were constructed and the existing course re-organised to provide a revised 18 hole layout.
