ALL 18 GREENS RE-BUILT AT NORTHWOOD GC

All 18 greens and surrounds were re-built recently at Northwood Golf Club in Middlesex by leading contractors M. J. Abbott Limited to designs by DWGD, and utilising George Shiels as the Consultant Agronomist.

The Club, built in 1891 to designs by James Braid, had decided to re-built its greens to modern USGA specification to improve playing standards, particularly in wetter winter months, when often temporary greens had to be utilised.   As well as the re-building, the opportunity was also taken to enlarge and re-shape many of the greens, generally to give additional 'pin-able' areas to what were previously quite small putting surfaces.    One memorable aspect of the course, the double 7th/9th green (photo left) situated immediately in front of the clubhouse, was retained in the re-design, although slight amendment was made to aid safety and playability on those two holes.
